Moderation standard

How we handle reports about hosted sites.

What this covers

Brokerfront hosts websites for licensed Australian credit businesses. Each site is operated by its firm under that firm’s own licence and policies. As the hosting platform, we accept and review reports that a hosted site itself may be causing harm. This standard explains what can be reported, what happens to a report, and how a firm can respond to a moderation decision.

What can be reported

Every hosted site carries a “Report this site” link in its footer. A report can be made anonymously, in any of these categories:

  • A suspected scam or fraud.
  • Impersonation of a person or firm.
  • Misleading financial claims.
  • Exposed personal information.
  • Copyright infringement.
  • A security problem.
  • Anything else that does not fit the categories above.

A report about the service a firm has provided to its own client is a complaint, not an abuse report, and belongs with the firm’s complaints process, which every operational site links from its footer.

How a report is handled

  • Every report opens a moderation case for the platform team, bound to the actual site and page it was made from. Reports go to Brokerfront, not to the reported firm.
  • Reports of suspected fraud, impersonation, exposed personal information and security problems are treated as urgent and are triaged ahead of everything else.
  • Each case is reviewed by the platform team and closed with a recorded decision. Actions range from no action, through requiring the firm to change content, to unpublishing a site while a serious matter is investigated. Every step is kept on an audit trail.
  • Where the law requires it, we report matters to the relevant authority.

What we collect from a reporter

A report contains what the reporter writes, the address of the reported page, and a shortened form of the reporter’s network address used to limit duplicate and automated submissions. An email address is optional and is used only to follow up on that report. Report records are kept while the case is open and retained afterwards as part of the platform’s moderation history. Our broader handling of personal information is described in the privacy policy.

If your site is reported

A report does not, by itself, mean a firm has done anything wrong. Where a moderation decision affects a firm’s site, we contact the firm with the reason and what is required. A firm that considers a decision wrong can write to hello@brokerfront.com.au with its response; a different member of the platform team reviews the decision and the firm receives the outcome in writing.
